Hexameter
A hexameter is a verse of six feet (Greek hex, "six"). Although
dactylic hexameter was the basis for
most classical epic poetry in Greek and Latin, it's not
very common in English: it tends to have a strong caesura, which breaks the line into two
trimeters or some other
combination.
A verse of iambic hexameter is known as
an Alexandrine.
