THE MARCH

The Community Alliance for the Environment (CAFE) organized a large-scale, multi-ethnic group of 1,500 people to march across the Williamsburg Bridge in January of 1993. The march sought to raise awareness and protest proposals to build an incinerator at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. CAFE organizers also felt that the march would be a step toward unity in a community frequently divided along many lines--religion, ethnicity and race, to name a few.
