Rewarding Shareholders

Sources of Dividend Information

Historical Prices from Yahoo! Finance provide more than 20 years worth of dividend data (including stock splits).

Dividends paid and anticipated for more than 1,500 companies are available in the Value Line Investment Survey. The latest issues are at the Reference Desk; the publication is on microfilm cartridges from 1969-1979, and on microfiche from 1980 onwards.

The Standard & Poor's Stock Reports (in Business Reference) and its companion, the more selective S&P Stock Market Encyclopedia, (REF HG 4921.S68) provide ten years of dividend information.

The Moody's Handbook of Common Stock (REF HG 4905 .M815) also has dividend payout information for 8-10 years.

Share Repurchases

Use the Sources of Financial Statements to locate this information in a company's 10-Q or 10-K, usually under "Stockholders' Equity Statements." You can also compare the number of shares outstanding over time by consulting the sources listed above for dividend information.

Sometimes, the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times carries news of firms repurchasing shares. Consult the appropriate print indexes (Index Table F).
