SURVIVAL CHECKLIST FOR RUTGERS-NEWARK STUDENTS

Basic Tools

1. A valid Rutgers-Newark ID.
     Need an ID? Take your paid term bill to the Photo ID and Permit Sales Office, 3rd Floor, Blumenthal Hall, 249 University Avenue. The photo ID Office staff will produce the card and issue it to you. Any questions? Please phone the Photo ID and Permit Sales Office, (973) 353-5873.

2. A Pegasus e-mail account.
     To create an account, visit any campus computing lab or go to the Newark Computing Services' "New Students Guide" at http://rutgers-newark.rutgers.edu/test/ExternalPgs/NewStudents/NewStudent.html After some helpful information, you can proceed to making an account. 3. A library barcode and pin.
     The barcode and pin indicate that you are a registered library borrower. To register, please visit the Circulation Desk, Dana Library, and bring your valid Rutgers-Newark ID as well as another proof of address (a driver's license, for example). In addition to borrowing books and reserve items, the barcode and pin enable you to access the Rutgers University Libraries' electronic resources from an off campus location. 4. A copy of the semester's class schedule and the current course catalog.
     To pick up copies, visit the Registrar, 3rd floor, Blumenthal Hall, 249 University Avenue, or find the online schedule (http://www.acs.rutgers.edu:8800.soc) and catalog (http://www.ruweb.rutgers.edu/catalogs).

5. Dana Library's Reference Desk staff.
     Dana's reference librarians can provide you with reliable information sources for term papers and other projects. They are also ready to help you become an effective library researcher. After you access the Rutgers University Libraries' home page (http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu), select "Reference" on the sidebar, then click "Ask a Librarian".

6. Student Health Center staff.
     Physicians, nurses, and other health care providers are available at the Center. It is located on the first floor, Blumenthal Hall, 249 University Avenue. Any questions? Please phone the Center, (973) 353-5231, or check the Web site, http://www.rutgers-newark.rutgers.edu/healthcenter.

7. Tutors.
     Tutors are available through the department offering the course. They are also available at the Academic Foundations Learning Center which is located on the first floor, Conklin Hall. Any questions? Please phone the Learning Center, (973) 353-5608.

8. Help with Writing.
     The Newark Writing Center offers writing workshops and tutoring for Rutgers-Newark students. Call 973-353-1955 or visit the Web page at http://www.andromeda.rutgers.edu/~nwc/.

9. Shuttle Bus Service.
     Rutgers-Newark, UMDNJ, and NJIT cooperatively provide a shuttle bus service to students. The route includes parking lots on all three campuses as well as the Broad Street Station and Penn Station. The bus runs every 30 minutes Monday through Friday from 3:30 PM until midnight. 10. ATM.
     The ATM is located in the first floor lobby, Robeson Campus Center, 350 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

11. Quiet places to study.
     Libraries are usually quiet and they are open many hours everyday. There are several libraries in Newark where you may study. They include: Dana Library, particularly the first floor, South Wing; Rutgers-Newark Law School Library, 5th floor, Rutgers Center for Law and Justice, 123 Washington Street; George F. Smith Library for the Health Sciences, UMDNJ, 32 Twelfth Avenue, Newark; and Newark Public Library, 5 Washington Street.

12. Deck II.
     An additional parking garage is available to students at the corner of Warren and Washington Streets. The best approach is from Raymond Boulevard rather than Warren Street since the traffic on Washington Street runs one way.

13. Campus computing labs.
     The computing labs are located in Hill Hall, Dana Library, the Law School Library, and Engelhard Hall.
