Does the U.S. Violate International Human Rights and Peace-Keeping Treaties?
In its attempt to accumulate data through covert action and other intelligence sources, over the years, the United States has failed, to acknowledge the rights of its citizens. In seeking its personal benefits, the United States has also neglected the rights of citizens of other countries that pose as targets for the U.S. intelligence services (primarily the CIA). Today, America is an initiator and an integral part of most peace-keeping Human Rights actions. Yet, it covertly tends to be the greatest violator of these agreements in the name of intelligence collection.
I would argue that the life of a person is more important than the benefits that he or she could provide to the CIA - a fact that the United States must now acknowledge. In the case of Guatemala, USA ruthlessly dis-acknowledged the importance of human lives as well as the diplomacy in the international sphere. USA was selfish to assume that international treaties, that are created to maintain a decorum in the world can be overridden to meet its personal gain. Thus, the question is how important is the promise to abide by international peace keeping treaties? Is the duty of international peace keeping forces redundant in today's world?
