Globalization and the State

As we enter the twenty-first century, the roles of Non-governmental organizations are expanding daily. For decades they acted as informants to the United Nations. But today, due to the rise in information technology (i.e. the Internet), NGO's are branching out to every segment of the world's population.

Non-governmental organizations are responsible for publicizing human rights violations as well as environmental issues. They can extend past state borders and follow their own set of rules. The link between the technology and the expansion of NGO's is the purpose of my paper.

I will try to explain the roles of NGO's in this everchanging computer driven global society. I will attempt to show how the state system that we have grown so accustom to is losing a great deal of power. Yet instead of crumbling, the "state" is merely reshaping many of its policies to work with NGO's to better all parties involved.
