Globalization and its Exploiting Effects on the Global South

Globalization was initially intended to horizontally level the playing field for all nations, states and individuals; this has not happened. With technological advances such as smart cards, e-cash, e-commerce, personal PCs, and the Internet, the playing field has become privatized to the possessors of technology. The access and ability to utilize these advancements has created a global societal dichotomy between the haves and the have-nots.
As the Berlin Wall came crumbling down, it was perceived to be a symbol of the closure. It was the end of bipolarization between two great nations, the United States and the Soviet Union, but in reality, it was the end of one form of bipolarization and the beginning of another.
