Rutgers University Libraries
Marianne Gaunt Welcome to the Rutgers University Libraries!

We are committed to providing you with the resources and services you need to achieve your educational goals. I want to tell you a little bit about the Libraries so you know the resources and services that are available to you.

The Rutgers University Libraries rank among the nation's top research libraries with over three million volumes located in twenty-six individual libraries, collections, and reading rooms on the various Rutgers' campuses. Our newest library is RU-Online, a rapidly growing collection of thousands of full text and full image electronic journals and reference works as well as more than 180 online databases and indexes. RU-Online is accessible to you from any desktop computer.

Our collections include significant resources in support of all undergraduate and graduate degree programs. They are strong in a wide range of specialties, with individual libraries or collections dedicated to the humanities and social sciences, science and engineering, business and economics, chemistry and other natural and applied sciences, the fine and performing arts, jazz, New Jersey history, nursing, and women's studies.

A Bridge to the Future: The Rutgers Digital Library Initiative, our long range plan, describes the Libraries commitment to develop an infrastructure that empowers all Rutgers students to identify, locate, retrieve, and use effectively information resources in any format, to fulfill their academic objectives and intellectual pursuits. You will discover that we are well on our way to meeting our goals.

For our many students at RutgersOnline, we have created this suite of Web pages, to provide you with a solid foundation in using a wide selection of digital library resources and services. There are instructions on connecting to our resources from off-campus; using IRIS, our online catalog; searching our indexes and the Internet; organizing a research strategy effectively; evaluating information on the Web; and other important library and research oriented topics. There is also a link to the Libraries main website, our virtual front door, where services like "Ask A Librarian" and electronic reserves will aid you in your studies and are available at anytime. At our main website you will find research guides that provide links to recommended information resources on a number of academic subjects.

We wish you much success in all your studies at RutgersOnline. Please contact us anytime by sending a message to Ask A Librarian. Our expert faculty and staff, in a variety of fields, are here to help you. We welcome your questions about our resources and services or suggestions about additional ways we can support your work.
