Articles

How do I find articles?

Many, but not all, recent articles from newspapers, magazines, journals, and other periodicals are available in their entirety in some electronic format. To find references or citations to articles, use a periodical index which covers the content of a chosen group of publications picked for a specific purpose. For example, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) indexes sources of interest to people in nursing and allied health. Business Source Premier indexes material of relevance to those studying business and management. Science topics are covered by many different indexes, including Applied Science and Technology Abstracts and Science Citation Index. For a complete list of indexes available at Rutgers, consult the List of Indexes, which is arranged both alphabetically and by broad subject area.

Chemistry Library The periodical indexes themselves will often only provide you with a brief citation (including the author, title, and source of the article). In many cases, an abstract or summary will also be provided. In a few indexes, such as Academic Search Premier and CINAHL, the full-text of the articles from many journals is included. For most indexes, you have to make a note of the journal title(s) of the article(s), and search IRIS, our online catalog, to see if the publication offers full-text access online.

If you have not done so, refer to the guidelines for remote access to these and other Rutgers Libraries online indexes, by clicking on 'Connecting' on the left navigation bar. You can brush up on Searching Tips to obtain the best results from these indexes. You can also complete Module 4 - Finding Articles - of our Searchpath online tutorial.
