DAN MORGENSTERN, Director, is a noted jazz historian and former editor of Down Beat. His many publications include Jazz People, and he has won six Grammy Awards for his album notes. A former trustee of NARAS, Morgenstern has served on the Jazz {Panel of the NEA. He has taught jazz history at Brooklyn College, New York University, the Peabody Institute and at Rutgers.
EDWARD BERGER, Associate Director and Head of Research Services, is a graduate of Indiana University and has a M.L.S. from Rutgers. He is co-author of Benny Carter: A Life in American Music, Reminiscing in Tempo, and Basically Speaking: An Oral History of George Duvivier. He serves as record producer and road manager for Benny Carter.
VINCENT PELOTE, Sound Archivist and Head of Technical Services, holds a B.A. in Music Education and a M.L.S. from Rutgers. He has published several discographies, including one of Lionel Hampton in the vibraphonist's autobiography. He is active in the Music Library Association and in the Association of Recorded Sound Collections.
ESTHER SMITH, Secretary, has been with IJS since 1986. In addition to assisting patrons and scheduling, she maintains the IJS photo archive.
TAD HERSHORN, Archivist, has written about and photographed jazz since the late 1960s. He received a Master's degree in history from George Mason University, followed by an M.L.S. from the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in archives and manuscripts.
ANNIE KUEBLER, Archivist, joined IJS after archival work at the Smithsonian Institution.
JOHN CLEMENT, Collection Specialist, a jazz collector and discographical researcher for over four decades, is responsible for the organization of the sound recording collections. He also maintains the IJS computerized catalog, and assists in collection development.
ROBERT NAHORY, Digital Library Applications Developer, joined IJS after extensive experience in physics research on lasers for fiber optic communications. He has published over 150 physics research papers along with a book: Lasers, Harnessing the Atom's Light, Freeman (1998). This past experience combined with the fact that he is a musician led him to IJS.
IJS is also strongly supported by an external Advisory Board.
