Core List
The Chair will update the documents on the core list with additional bibliographic information for the next meeting. It was agreed to omit the LCCN, but to keep the OCLC number. It would also be desirable to add LC and/or Dewey classification numbers.
Journal of Government Information
The Chair showed the members a copy of the State Publications section from the December 1998 issue of the Journal of Government Information. The section is edited by Janita Jobe and consists of a compilation of bibliographic information and annotations of noteworthy state documents published the prior year. All fifty states are represented. The Chair submitted information for three New Jersey publications. The New Jersey documents listed in the 1998 issue are Black Bear Management Plan 1997, The Development of New Jersey Society, and New Jersey Women: A History of Their Status, Roles, and Images.
It was suggested that the SDIG compile an annotated list of notable documents. The list would be compiled annually. All members of the SDIG could contribute annotations for documents they felt deserved special mention. The list would be added to the DANJ homepage and perhaps published in our Newsletter. It was asked if the list could be published on a wider scale. New Jersey Libraries would have been a good medium for this type of publication, but it has ceased publication. The Chair will see if there are other journals or newsletters which might be interested in publishing a list of this type.
Ideas for SDIG Activities
A suggestion for a future meeting topic was the processing of New Jersey depository items. Many members exercise different methods for checking-in and cataloging New Jersey depository materials and would like to share information on procedures for processing these items and ideas for effective and efficient methods. After obtaining a copy of the current New Jersey Depository Agreement and guidelines for processing materials, the Chair will schedule a meeting.
The next meeting will be held at the College of St. Elizabeth’s in Convent Station on June 4, 1999 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 1:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Sabatino
