Meeting Minutes
February 2, 2001

Present: Geetali Basu (gbasu@ccm.edu), Susan Kadezabek (skadezab@monmouth.edu), Carol Bruce (brucecar@shu.edu), Ann Grice (agrice@ebpl.org), Shelley Myer (samyer@scils.rutgers.edu), Mary Alice Cicerale (cicerale@rci.rutgers.edu), Susan Sabatino (sabatinos@wpunj.edu), Susan Lyons (slyons@kinoy.rutgers.edu), Dorothy Warner (warner@rider.edu).

Susan Lyons recommended an outline for proceeding with our recommendations for Digital Preservation by the State Depository Library Program. Following a presentation by Shelley Myer of her research regarding the migration of New Jersey state documents from print to web, the following voluntary assignments were given:

  1. Background and Statement of the Problem

  1. Fragility of digital documents - Susan Lyons
  2. Migration of documents from print to web - Shelley Myer
  3. Problem of the digital divide - web-only access does not serve all NJ citizens - Susan Sabatino
  4. Efforts of the State Library thus far - commending the work done by Bob Lupp in maintaining the NJ Government Documents on the Web site - Susan Lyons will discuss this with Bob Lupp

II. Discussion of Best Practices for Preservation - drawing from the literature on digital preservation practices - Susan Lyons and Dorothy Warner

III. Recommendations for State Depository Library Program

The meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be April 6, 2001.
