The minutes of the June 7, 2002 meeting were approved with amendments.
Discussion of the June 7, 2002 Meeting at the Trenton State Library
Discussion of our meeting at the Trenton State Library with Bob Lupp and Deborah Mercer. All agreed that we were pleased with the appointment of Deborah Mercer as supervisor for the New Jersey Depository Library Program. The suggestion was made to write a letter to Norma Blake, State Librarian, expressing our appreciation of her support for this program and our continued interest in its future development.
The suggestion was also made to invite Deborah Mercer to attend the next SDIG meeting to discuss the New Jersey Depository Library Program and anything the SDIG could do to help her.
Discussion of the nominations received for the 2002 State Document and Internet Site of the Year Awards
The Chair reported that the members of the sub-committee (Ellen Bonacarti, Shirley Knight and the Chair) reviewed the nominations received for both awards. A total of five documents were nominated. Two of the documents received multiple nominations and were the top-ranked documents of the sub-committee members. These documents were George Washington and the Battle of Trenton : The Evolution of an American Image published by the New Jersey State Museum, and Steal Away, Steal Away : New Jersey’s Underground Railroad Heritage published by the New Jersey Historical Commission. The members of the sub-committee felt that both documents were very deserving of the award. It was decided to present the 2002 award to George Washington and the Battle of Trenton , and to hold over until next year Steal Away, Steal Away which has a publication date of 2002 and will be eligible for the award next year.
Four web sites were nominated for the Internet Site of the Year Awards. The top-ranked site, which also received two nominations was Labor Fast Facts of the Dept. of Labor. The site has recently changed its name. It is now called Labor, Planning and Analysis, but the URL remains the same. The group discussed the issue of a site’s name changing after the nominations have been received, and decided that since it is still the same site with the same URL, it would still be eligible for the award.
The Chair will contact someone at the New Jersey State Museum and the Dept. of Labor to notify them of the award and the presentation at the annual conference, and to ask if someone will attend to accept the award.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will take place on Friday, December 6, 2002 at the East Brunswick Public Library.
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Sabatino
