Agenda:

The agenda was approved.

Minutes:

The minutes of the June 1, 2001 meeting were approved.

Update of the report, Staying Digital: Recommendation on Preserving New Jersey Government Information in the Digital Age

Sue reported that she had received a number of comments in e-mail messages about the report. The comments were favorable and some people mentioned that it would be used in other reports.

Sue reported that copies were sent to the State Librarian, the State Archivist and the Governor’s office, but that they may have gone astray. Bob Lupp mentioned that the State Librarian had not received it. Sue will send a second copy to all three offices and call to verify the proper address. These offices get a lot of mail, and it may not all reach the designated addressee.

Sue will also make a few copies to distribute at the DANJ Conference.

Sue also mentioned that other groups have similar concerns about the preservation of electronic documents. The August 2001 issue of American Libraries had an article about librarians at the Univ. of California at San Diego. The California State Library is very interested in capturing and preserving electronic data. The GODORT Preservation Task Force is also working on a report.

State Document and Internet Site of the Year Awards:

The Chair distributed copies of the nominations received in the two categories of awards. There were ten nominations for printed document, although two of these nominations were carried over from last year. There were five nominations for Web sites. Two of the nominations were for the same site (the Dept. of Education).

Ellen Bonacarti and Shirley Knight are reviewing the nominations and will e-mail their rankings to the Chair.

Next Meeting:

The next meeting will be held on Friday, December 7, 2001 from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. at the East Brunswick Public Library.

The meeting adjourned at 12:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Sabatino
